Royal weddings are a time for honouring traditions, retaining dignity and displaying all the pomp and ceremony Britain does best.
And while Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding day in May 2018
might have to conform to a litany of royal customs, pictures from the Suits actress's first wedding show anything but a stuffy bride.
When Meghan married Trevor Engelson in 2011, she threw an enormous four-day bash in a luxurious resort in Jamaica.
Friends and family flocked to the cruise ship port of Ocho Rios on September 10 2011 to watch Meghan and Trevor tie the knot at the Jamaica Inn, seven years after they started dating.
Rather than spending hours primping and preening before the ceremony, Meghan was in an itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini posing on the beach with her beloved mum Doria Radlan.
Meghan teamed her bright yellow two-piece with a brown trilby hat and a gold pendant necklace, smiling into the camera as she cosied up to her mum.
Her hair was still wet from the pool just hours before she sauntered down to the beach to exchange vows with her then-partner.
Meghan's first wedding dress was a long, white, floor-length gown with an encrusted silver belt embellished on to the dress.
It featured a short v-plunge at the front and the elegant strapless design showed off the actress's toned arms and prominent collarbone - similar to Kate Middleton's evening wedding dress, also in 2011.
Laughing into the camera as they clutched drinks, Meghan and Trevor looked the picture of happiness.
Meghan wore her trademark brunette locks down in a simple style, pairing her casual do with dark eyeliner and natural lipstick.
Her only jewellery was a gold bangle and, of course, her wedding ring.
Trevor was similarly casual in a white lightweight shirt left open at the collar and matching trousers.
His thick gold wedding band could be seen winking away on his left hand.
After partying the night away surrounded by wine, the newlyweds climbed up on chairs to perform the traditional Jewish horah.
The fun didn't stop after the wedding night, as the bride and groom had three more days of wild partying in store for their guests.
Games of 'wheelbarrow' were organised on the beach, with one candid snap showing Meghan - back in her trusty yellow bikini - being walked on her hands across the sand by a male guest.
Although Meghan had already found success as an actress by the time she married Trevor, it may have been the unpretentious nature of a beach wedding that attracted her to Jamaica's Ocho Rios.
Wedding packages at the town's Jamaica Inn start from just $1,500 (£1,100) and the flight from Los Angeles, where her family live, would have taken just eight hours to reach the Caribbean island.
Sadly for Meghan and Trevor, the couple divorced in August 2013 - not quite two years after they tied the knot.
"After the wedding, it was like a light switched off. There's Meghan Before Fame and Meghan After Fame. After three seasons of Suits, she called me to say the marriage was over," Meghan's former maid-of-honour Ninaki Priddy revealed to Mail Online.
"It's not up to me to speak for Trevor, but I know he was travelling to Toronto every few weeks and would have walked the earth to make their marriage work.
"The way she handled it, Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him. He was hurt."

Three years later, Meghan and Prince Harry were introduced by a mutual friend in London - and the rest, as they say, is history.
